* Please note: The term "high-functioning" with regard to ASD, although commonly used, is problematic for several reasons. "Level one" (without an extra support requirement) is preferable, meaning the need for support is not significantly higher than an average neurotypical person, although the nature or type of support needed may be qualitatively different. The "spectrum" in ASD can be regarded as similar to the optical spectrum (the rainbow) with qualitatively different colors, each appearing quite different than others. A spectrum is not the same as a degree (or severity) continuum. The degree is indicated as level one (requiring a usual level of support), level two (requiring substantial support) or level three (requiring very substantial support).
